Croquet

Kelley restored the croquet set that I played with growing up. It looks really good...he did a great job. The kids have never played croquet before and it has been many years since Kelley and I have played. The course Kelley made was golf course quality. We had a fun time and Dalton won!!!

A Compliment

Today in Madison's math class, her teacher, Mrs. Gavrilescu said,

My Dad taught me two things:

1. If it's too good to be true, it is.
2. Only befriend those who know what's going on.

Then a boy in her class spoke up and said, "Madison, will you be my friend?"

History Lesson

We decided to trek not too far from home and learn a bit of history.

We went to two covered bridges in Union County.

The Little Darby Covered Bridge

Treacle Creek Covered Bridge

Then, not too far from the bridges were two State Cemetery Nature Preserves

Bigelow Cemetery Prairie

Smith Cemetery

Our intent is to travel a bit more to see where these back roads might take us.

D.A.R.E. Graduation

Tonight was D.A.R.E. Graduation for the Fifth Grade class in Jonathan Alder School District. It was held at the high school. Madison was a bit disappointed that she wasn't chosen as one of the six students to read their D.A.R.E. Commitment, but when they gave the final award of the night which was the student who had the highest point award for the D.A.R.E. Program in the entire fifth grade and her name was called, she forgot all about her disappointment. She was very excited. Although the award was a skateboard and helmet and she thought it a bit weird that she was in a dress and sandals accepting the skateboard. Still we are very proud of her accomplishment!

Posing with her award. Will Daddy ever let her ride it?

Dalton just had to get his picture with her award too. Dalton has always wanted to ride a skateboard and he wanted Madison to win it so bad!! Will Daddy ever let him ride it?

Our Soccer Player

Dalton is on the Galaxy team this year. It is so gratifying to see him want to play sports and he really puts his all into it. He makes us proud!

Easter

Yes - Easter was before Dalton's birthday, but the pictures were on a different camera...

Snow Day!

Madison County Spelling Bee

Madison was chosen along with eight other 5th graders to represent Jonathan Alder in the County spelling bee. She did this by passing a written test at school. The spelling bee was February 12th and was attended by all the school winners from Madison County, 5th thru 8th grade. They first had a written test and then the five winners from each grade would proceed to the oral test. Madison didn't get to proceed to the oral round, but came close. One boy from her grade who proceeded to the oral round got 24 answers right on the written test and Madison got 23 right. We are so proud of her to get that far!! She did get a shirt and a medal for her efforts! The actual winner of the spelling bee was a 5th grader from West Jeff.

Madison's 11th Birthday!

She had a great birthday with Family over to share the day with her, and she loved her candles!
